Flowers In Her Hair || Emily, Quinn & Avery

To decorate a woman, remind her of her beauty, is always powerful.  We are all broken, and there is healing in doing something simply for the purpose of extravagance and self love.  And without going anywhere, but right in your own home, the tapestry for the beautiful woven mess of it all.  This project is becoming close to my heart.

But this session has me thinking Flowers In Her Hair may have been meant for Mothers.

Because THIS WAS PERFECT.

Because show me one new momma who hasn't cried right along side her baby on tired late nights, or who doesn't have piles of clothes and diaper boxes piled up or hidden in back rooms. She looks at this human, this tiny new life in the world, and is filled to the brim with each and every piece of it and begins to pour out her heart.

Brave new momma, you deserve all the extravagance and self-love.

My April

Wedding season has not quite landed, but after the drawn out winter hibernation of the sun, the long warm days are here!   I find my mood also shifts with the seasons, and spring has me eager to create.  This month has been filled with all sorts of little creative outings; watercolors, coffee dates, living out some daydreams, book club.  I'll take all of it during these slow days before the summer fun begins.

I absolutely love the gold grasses of spring.  Add the sparkle of morning frost and each blade of grass is a blessing.

I started a little shop here on my website, full of a bunch of little creative ideas, and am absolutely loving the potential of what could come.

A weekend escaping to the farm.  Give me an open field and a hammock and I am in heaven.

Flowers In Her Hair || Jenna

Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It's a gift to the world and every being in it. Don't cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you've got.”

What I've got.

The first day of each month an alarm goes off in my phone, it says "Write down your Why."    A routine I learned from The Parson's class at the Define School, this is my grounding for photography, a reminder of why I continue to get behind the lens.  While I won't share all the details the last part reads;

Because the moments, when you are not thinking about how this will look for everyone else, are sacred.  To photograph in that space is to capture truth.  Real memories not meant for showing off, but for holding close to your chest, lifting your eyes, and saying a quiet thanks for being alive.

I am starting a personal project.   It is quite simple actually, I have been dabbling with "flowers in her hair"  and the more I do it, the more it feels like something beautiful and honest lives there, something close to the chest.

So I am going to explore it.

Each month I will photograph a different woman in her own sacred space, her home.  Let's uplift you in that space, we will crown you with flowers and dance in your living room, full belly laugh about how silly you feel as you embrace your own beauty.  And finally, lets together create art, images that hold the radiance of you.   And together let us explore why this feels deeper then just creating pretty images.  Why it seems each woman I have photographed feels a rush of life, a refuel of their spirit.

I don't know what it will turn into, I simply know this work deserves to exist.  So this is my contribution.  This is what I've got.
