Flowers In Her Hair || Laura & Rachel

The amount of times I have been told "Wedding Photography and a full time job?!  Well there goes your summer."  It is more times then I can count.  But here is the secret; most days, there isn't anything I would rather do more then spend some time creating with people I love.   So if I could spend every evening after work soaking up the sun, sitting on the front porch, dancing in the park, and then editing away as it gets dark consider me one happy girl.  Especially if that day also includes the beautiful, funny, life-giving company of Laura & Rachel.

This session.  What a breath of fresh air.  Rachel's authentic kind nature and that full, eye crinkling, nose scrunching laugh, fill a room.  I had the best afternoon photographing in her home and around her neighborhood, and am just filled to the brim with gratitude for the beautiful people photography has introduced me to.  Could not love this girl more!  She was such a gift in front of my lens.

Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It's a gift to the world and every being in it. Don't cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you've got.”

What I've got.

The first day of each month an alarm goes off in my phone, it says "Write down your Why."    A routine I learned from The Parson's class at the Define School, this is my grounding for photography, a reminder of why I continue to get behind the lens.  While I won't share all the details the last part reads;

Because the moments, when you are not thinking about how this will look for everyone else, are sacred.  To photograph in that space is to capture truth.  Real memories not meant for showing off, but for holding close to your chest, lifting your eyes, and saying a quiet thanks for being alive.

I am starting a personal project.   It is quite simple actually, I have been dabbling with "flowers in her hair"  and the more I do it, the more it feels like something beautiful and honest lives there, something close to the chest.

So I am going to explore it.

Each month I will photograph a different woman in her own sacred space, her home.  Let's uplift you in that space, we will crown you with flowers and dance in your living room, full belly laugh about how silly you feel as you embrace your own beauty.  And finally, lets together create art, images that hold the radiance of you.   And together let us explore why this feels deeper then just creating pretty images.  Why it seems each woman I have photographed feels a rush of life, a refuel of their spirit.

I don't know what it will turn into, I simply know this work deserves to exist.  So this is my contribution.  This is what I've got.
