The 10x10
This is an exercise from Yan Palmer that I have done in many different groups, and that I come back to again and again as a check in. It helps me understand where my work is currently, be more forward-thinking towards the work I want to create, and what are the key elements/symbols/subjects I am drawn to.
The Ask:
Go find 10 images that speak to your heart. The ones you look at and think that could of come from me. It is tugging just right at exactly what I am trying to say. Those images that blow you away and make you want to chase them. Hint: I recommend avoiding pinterest/instagram as they tend to filter towards what everyone else is doing. Look at artist websites/print books ect. and really spend some time with some artful images.
Gather 10 of your very very favorite images you’ve made. The ones that felt like a big win.
Take as little or as much time on this exercise, but don’t overthink! Intuitively gather, cull down to 10, and then share. I would love a chance to see your collections before our first scheduled 1:1 call. If you are feeling stuck, don’t hesitate to reach out. I will prompt the group to share some of the artists to help you expand your scope of inspiration!
